J. Technology Sector ETFs

For the past twenty years the fastest growing sector in the United States has been the technology sector, and it seems likely to continue to be so for the foreseeable future. This is the area where the United States excels, both in innovation and in producing popular new products for businesses and consumers alike.

This is a good area for younger investors. They tend to gravitate to this sector because it’s the area that interests them the most, and it’s also where most big innovations are taking place. Furthermore, there’s a healthy amount of real, targeted growth. The big concern here is the heavy weighting in Apple. As it stands right now, Apple dominates the field but is facing increased competition from its peers, especially Samsung, Microsoft, and Google. It remains to be seen whether the company can continue to innovate on the level it has up to this point without Mr. Jobs at the helm.

Although it is not directly connected to the indexes listed below, investors seeking to hedge their exposure to technology may wish to use PSQ, the ProShares Short QQQ® (-1x), because this inverse issue is dominated by technology stocks.
